Garmin Tactix Delta: Release date, availability, and Price range
Garmin released this amazing rugged tactical smartwatch on 20th January 2020, which is the successor of Garmin Tactix Charlie and is available on Garmin, Amazon, and other online stores. The price ranges from US$ 899 to US$ 1399, depending upon the style and color you go with.
Garmin Tactix Delta: Built and display
Tactix Delta looks quite similar to the Garmin Fenix 6X pro, but it does have some differences as well. First off, the watch comes in a sophisticated rugged design, after being tested against military standards 810G, which means that it can withstand extreme outdoor conditions without getting damaged.
The watch itself comes in 1.4-inch sunlight visible and transflective memory-in-pixel (MIP) display, with a resolution of 280 x 280 pixels, having sapphire crystal lens material, and DLC coated bezel material. There’s no touchscreen display in Tactix Delta, but it does have 5 physical buttons on its sides.
A silicone strap is there to make sure you wear it all the time, and it weighs around 97g, which can be a bit heavy for people with small wrists since it is bulky. Although this model is slimmer than its predecessor, having a 51mm watch on your wrist all the time is no joke.
Garmin Tactix Delta: Tactical features
It’s the tactical features that make it different from the other outdoor smartwatches because you can’t use these features in daily life unless you’re a military person or work in special forces. Let’s take a look at these tactical features.
Garmin Tactix Delta has a unique night vision mode that makes it easy to switch between daytime/nighttime views and can be an essential feature for anyone to see the screen with night vision goggles. With the help of its stealth mode, it can also be a perfect tool for anyone who wants to keep their movements and whereabouts confidential. For that, it disables your GPS position and every type of wireless connectivity/communication to make sure you go about your business undetected.
Its Jump Master mode is made specifically for paratroopers, which calculates high-altitude release points according to military guidelines, and its navigational capabilities help them to get to their objective points, once they’ve jumped.
Apart from these, Tactix delta comes with built-in topographic maps, dual-format GPS (GPS, GLONASS), ABC sensors (altimeter, barometer, compass), and projected waypoints, so you can have all sorts of backup at your wrist. And, if your location or mission gets compromised, you can easily wipe all this watch with the kill switch feature.
Garmin Tactix Delta: Health Monitoring features
In terms of health monitoring, Tactix Delta comes with some mandatory features like every other smartwatch, including heart rate and sleep monitoring. You can also get notifications about irregular heart rate and will be getting sleep score analysis based on different parameters. Garmin is yet to include ECG functionality in their watches, which Samsung and Apple have already introduced for quite a while now.
Apart from these regular features, it can track your stress, and respiration rate and keeps track of your hydration levels as well. With the help of body battery monitoring, you’d know when you carry out your next workout, and with the relaxation reminders, you can always get through the stressful day.
Tactix Delta can also track your nightly blood oxygen levels, through which you can see how much oxygen is getting carried out in your blood. Plus, females can track their menstrual cycles through the phone app as well.
Garmin Tactix Delta: Fitness tracking
Garmin watches are already known for their outdoor and multi-sports features, and Tactix Delta fills all the boxes of it. From your daily activities to having activity profiles for rowing, skiing, surfing, biking, hiking, etc., it can do all.
Since the watch comes with dual-positioning systems, which makes it accurate even in terms of tracking outdoor workouts. That said, Tactix Delta itself comes with ClimbPro, PacePro, Animated/MTB workouts, TOPO maps, Federal public land maps, expedition mode, and so many more.
For an ordinary person, whose usage doesn’t require these extraordinary outdoor features, this watch can be overwhelming. But, a sporty person or someone who likes to wander in the wildings, and needs to keep an eye on his/her activities should go for it, since it has everything, they’d need.
Garmin Tactix Delta: Smart features
Along with being the tactical gear, it does have the “smart” features in it. After pairing it up with a compatible smartphone, it will receive all the notifications of calls, messages, and other social apps on your wrist. Although it doesn’t have a built-in microphone or speaker, you won’t be getting the standalone capabilities in this watch.
Tactix Delta lets you pay from the watch with its contactless payment option, and you can listen to your favorite playlist on Spotify, Deezer, and Amazon Music or can store up to more than 2000 songs in the watch as well. Garmin lets you customize the watch through its Connect IQ store, and you can download watch faces and widgets from there very easily.
Garmin Tactix Delta: Battery life
Although the variant in review is not the solar version but after being fully charged, this Garmin Tactix Delta can last for 21 days in smartwatch mode. Depending upon your GPS and music usage, this battery life varies from 3 to 5 days, and it can go on for whooping 80 days in battery saver mode, which is amazing, to say the least.
If you’re opting for the solar version, then this 21-day battery life gets extended to 24 days, given that you wear the watch daily for 3 hours in 50k lux conditions, but in doing so the price goes beyond one grand, which can be a bit much for this feature only.
Garmin Tactix Delta: Is it worth it?
No doubt, Garmin Tactix Delta is one of the best military grade smartwatches. Therefore, you should go for the Garmin Tactix Delta if you’re into the military, law enforcement, or special forces and want the tactical features on your wrist. And, if you’re not opting for the watch because of tactical features, then it’s a perfect choice for those fitness and sports enthusiasts, who want to train themselves and keep an eye on their workouts and exercises.
On the other hand, there’s no point in spending nearly a grand over such a rugged, outdoor smartwatch if your usage doesn’t require these features. You can go for Garmin Fenix 6 or 6X pro, and it would cost a lot less than this.
Although this goes without saying, it all comes down to one’s preferences and usage. So, if you’re a beginner, and want a multisport watch, you should go with Garmin Forerunner 245, Garmin Venu Sq, or Garmin Fenix 5X, but if you want a rugged outdoor and tactical smartwatch, then there’s nothing better than Tactic Delta.
