Ticwatch 2 Smartwatch Review – Features Specs Pros Cons
Ticwatch 2, is a simple wearable gadget, yet not too simple, but not that complex either. It will give you some kind of vintage vibes, not because of the design or interface, but, the way Mobvoi played with its features. It is not the type of smartwatch which is filled with so many features, that you’ll be needing the time to understand how it works. But, that being said, yes, it does come with some innovations like a Tickle strap, 4GB internal memory, voice commands, and very interacting “Ticwear OS”, which will it a very interesting and attractive package for you.
On top of everything, it comes at a very affordable price and beats its competitors by a long margin in case of sleek, slim, and stylish design and overall look.
So, if you’re looking to buy a smartwatch, which can be your fancy pick at a considerable price, this can be it for you.
Most smartwatches are expensive because they’re made by tech giants like Samsung or Apple, but the TicWatch 2 is affordable without sacrificing quality or style.

Elegant Design:
Ticwatch has a slim, sleek design and it comes in a 1.4 inch OLED display panel which mostly makes up its size, but it is also occupied with a thin bezel all around itself. It has a 400×400 resolution which is quite good enough for reading a text, and provides well-balanced sharpness in the display but, it does seem to have a slight visibility problem in the display during the bright daylight. However, its 287ppi makes the display brighter and as sharp, as it needs to be.
It really has done justice to the word “smartwatch” by being sleek and too lightweight. It weighs only 44 grams, making it seriously lightweight and easy to wear. Most of the wearable products nowadays are too heavy that it becomes a liability by being a pain instead of being easy to do work. But this beauty right here is so lightweight, that once you wear it, it won’t become a burden on your hand and will do the work accordingly.
The heart rate monitoring sensor is on the backside of it so that when you will wear it, the sensor couples with your wrist in such a way, that it can take the reading precisely. There are no charging contacts on the back or the side of this smartwatch because it uses two different wireless charging docks.
There’s a tickle strap on the right side of this watch which is a unique and innovative addition and makes it different from other smartwatches out there. The reason why the crown button is on the left side of the watch is because of this tickle strap, which can be an efficient side touchpad. You can easily access notifications through this tickle and can scroll up and down, easily.
It comes in two different styles; charcoal and black aluminum frame, along with liquid silicon strap which can be sweat-resistant when it has to be.
It is also available stainless steel frames; Oak – cold-Forged stainless steel with brown leather strap and Onyx – Black Cold – Forged stainless steel with sapphire crystal screen. You can obviously pick any one of the styles according to your liking and preferences.
Hardware:
The hardware of Ticwatch 2 comprises of 1.2GHz Dual-Core ARM Cortex-A7 processor and 512 MB of Mobile LPDDR3 SDRAM. If I have to give my honest opinion about this hardware setup, I’d say it’s not really up to the mark, but since this watch really low in price as compared to its competitors so, it’s definitely a solid hardware setup here and can work just fine with the engineered features.
On the brighter side, it does come with 4GB of internal memory, which is really a plus point, because you can really enjoy music by putting your own stuff here without necessarily having it on the phone and can really enjoy many features because of it.
GPS + GLONASS:
“Tracking”, of any kind, whether it’s your tracking or fitness tracking, it does help you, one way or the other, and the combination of GPS and GLONASS is always a deadly one. Imagine yourself getting tracked from just a GPS tracker, I guess that would be enough if we’re talking about literal tracking. But, when there’s a combination of these two, it becomes too accurate, precise, and provides better tracking data, which is, obviously a good thing.
Ticwatch 2 comes with these two technologies by default and does all the tracking very neatly. However, some of the fitness features are still in “testing mode” due to which it is impossible to say whether they will work just fine with the tracking. But, for now, we can consider that GPS tracking is good to go for it.
Activity tracking:
When the smartwatch has a built-in fusion of two technologies, you expect it to do the work likewise, which is agreeable in this case. It has a pretty good activity tracking feature, I won’t say that it is the best and has everything a fitness geek would desire, but, it isn’t that bad either.
For a fitness enthusiastic person, it can surely do the work as it tracks your outdoor/indoor activities which include outdoor running, walking, cycling, and different freestyle workouts, and gives you detailed insights about it. Even though if you are not really a fitness geek, but, want your step, calories and distance counted, it can do it too. So, even if the sports mode or activity tracking is limited for certain workouts only, it still can work as a normal fitness tracker.
Health monitoring:
Ticwatch 2 does care for your health and that’s why Mobvoi introduced the heart rate monitoring feature in it, so your heart rate gets monitored efficiently, without any interruption. This right here, is a very important feature per se, because, during workouts or heavy exercising, you can get details about it without having the need to wear an extra strap for that manner. The sensor which is being used for this purpose is good and the Apple Watch is using the same sensor, due to which it can be said that the heart rate tracking is close to accurate.
However, it doesn’t give you one reading and keep on measuring your heart rate constantly, until you stop it, manually.
Making you go hands-free:
Just like Apple introduced Siri and it was one the biggest hit for them in providing a hands-free experience. Just like that, Mobvoi has tried to give their audience a bit of ease, by introducing the voice recognition feature, through which, they can let the watch do their tasks, with the help of your voice without actually doing it.
You can access voice by swiping left from the watch. The voice command feature can be turned by going to setting/preference. This voice recognition software does the job pretty accurately, but, it comes with a slight drawback. The voice command is ”OK Tico” and after saying that, it will automatically try to pick everything that has been said after it, which actually makes it a liability because maybe your task that you’re going to assign gets jumped by other words.
As the Ticwatch 2 comes with a built-in speaker, you have to keep it in your mind that it will make some sort of noise, which you have to bear, unfortunately. Because some of the queries will be asked out loud along with the displaying of it on the screen, it can be a bit of a headache for sensitive persons.
Calling and texting:
Even though it can’t be termed as a complete standalone phone smartwatch due to the unavailability of SIM but you can still receive phone calls by connecting it to your Bluetooth/Wi-Fi. It comes with a proper mic and a speaker through which you can take the calls anytime, anywhere.
If we talk about texting and other notifications, then yes, this smartwatch can receive text messages and all those notifications. This feature does come in handy while jogging, running, or during a workout, eliminating the need for using the phone for doing so.
Having said that, this makes it a ‘distance bound’ watch for these two things specifically and can’t be termed as a Standalone smartwatch, but, it still can work fine with the phone nearby.
Operating system/Tickle strip:
The operating system of anything, whether it’s a smartwatch or a smartphone, does matter a lot. First off, the performance of every feature gets compromised if the operating system isn’t good enough or isn’t coming with the regular updates because then the bugs wouldn’t get fixed. Secondly, it’s the main course, and the genre depends upon it.
Mobvoi introduced the “Ticwear” operating system for this smartwatch, which is quite attractive and innovative per se. It is, however, quite similar to Android wear in its many alterations, but, it does have a key highlight in this regard, which is its ‘Tickle strip’. This tickle can be used to scroll up and down the notifications from social media apps like Facebook and Whatsapp. Along with that, you can also use the scrolling and zooming feature into the smartwatch, using this tickle strip.
The overall performance of the operating system is quite good and there are no major concerns in this regard. However, there are some connectivity issues for the iPhone users, which Mobvoi is going to fix, soon. However, as an Android user, on the other hand, you can easily enjoy this operating system with solid connectivity and a lot of apps that you can install using its app store.
Multi-functions:
Along with main features like activity tracking and health monitoring, it does come with some features which can work as a cherry at the top.
For instance, you can not only listen to songs but you can also save songs in it, as has 4GB internal memory of itself and you can enjoy favorite songs, without even needing to use the phone for it. With gesture control, you can shuffle the songs by double knocking on the screen. But, you’ll have to sync your phone with it, and then you’re good to go.
Ticwatch 2 also has an amazing feature where you can do different tasks by certain gestures in a specific way. For example, if there’s an incoming call, just flip the watch to take it. You can dim your smartwatch by pressing your palm and knocking on the screen twice to shuffle songs. Although this may seem not really an interesting thing for older persons because frankly, they’re not fond of these mere innovative shortcuts, it is kind of attracting eye-catching features for the younger generation.
Third-party apps:
Even though you can download third-party apps easily, there aren’t any new innovative apps that you can really enjoy using. There are only apps for different watch faces or for the very basic features; torch, to-do-list. So, I’m not personally in the favor of taking a headache for these mere features, and would totally recommend using the actual app store of this smartwatch, which is equipped with really great apps, which obviously will be more compatible and will run more smoothly.
But still, if you really want to give it a go, just download the Global app store by going into the setting of the watch and then clicking the Mobvoi app store there.
Water and sweat-resistant:
Ticwatch 2 is IP65 level water-resistant, which kind of makes it immune to slight exposing underwater. But, I would strictly recommend not to use it under the water for a long period of time. Because, since it is IP65 level water-resistant which is a pretty low level for water resistance. Although, it can save you from literal damage that can be done by the immediate splashing of water, so, even though it says, that it’s water-resistant, try not doing any experiments underwater for testing any.
As it comes with a smooth, silky, and liquid silicone band that automatically becomes sweet resistant, and that comes quite handy in summers or hot humid conditions, where you have to wear the smartwatch for a long period of time.
Compatibility:
There are no compatibility issues with Ticwatch 2 with the latest phones because it is compatible with every smartphone having Android 4.3+ and iOS 8+. So, there won’t be any compatibility issues if you have an up-to-date operating system or the latest smartphones.
Most people think of Ticwatch 2 as an android smartwatch but this is not true and it can be used with the iPhone too. However, there are some complaints from iOS users about the syncing, which can be a bug and I’m sure will be resolved soon with the latest Ticwear update.
Battery life:
Ticwatch 2 comes with a 300mAH battery capacity which is comparatively lower than the other smartwatches, but it has limited features as well. In general, battery drainage does depend on the user side well, that how often you use it. On average, Ticwatch 2 is meant to last one and a half-day, but this doesn’t really happen in real-time.
You can limit the battery drainage by putting a limit to GPS, an ambient mode is disabled and notifications are set to a minimum but then again, if you have to limit all the features every time, what’s the point of even a smartwatch then? So, for normal use, it can last up to 16-18 hours which isn’t really good, but then again, according to its price, it’s okayish.
The charging method for it is really simple because it gets charged by the wireless technology called “TiCharge” and you can simply put it on the charging dock and will get charged within 80-90 minutes.
Ticwatch 2 Drawbacks
After analyzing each and every feature, I’ve listed all the important aspects, but I’ve personally felt that there are some of the drawbacks of this smartwatch.
No sleep monitoring:
This feature, right here, is considered as a “must” now and almost every smartwatch company is trying to include sleep monitoring and heart rate tracking feature as a default.
Because, as technology is evolving, people want to get insights about their health, efficiently and conveniently. And, “sleep tracking” does help those people who want to keep a track of their sleep and get insights about it.
Even though, Ticwatch and Mobvoi introduced Sleep tracking and many interactive features in this watch’s successor “Ticwatch Pro” it is certainly missing from this one, which is quite a bummer.
Sleep tracking features can be covered by the shadow of other features somehow, but this drawback can’t be covered with anything.
Battery life:
Yes, this smartwatch does have a short span of battery life and it is NOT suitable for long usage without. This means, that if you’re an adventurous person, love to travel and going on a trip and you won’t get the time and circumstances to charge it, then I’d advise you not to take this watch with you because it cannot last more than a day with constant usage of GPS and other features.
Limited features:
It’s not like this smartwatch has features that can be compared with Samsung or Apple smartwatches. Yes, it comes with limited features, which can’t be considered as a drawback in general, but it does lack some important features.

Editor’s Opinion
In my personal opinion, Ticwatch and Mobvoi have done amazing work manufacturing this smartwatch. They didn’t really flood it down with the features, but, on the other hand, they made sure that it is affordable for everyone.
Some of the features that can be the key highlights for this smartwatch are the Tickle strap, elegant design, internal storage, and dual-positioning system. They gave a really nice touch with the bezel and silicon straps.
If I can conclude the features of this smartwatch, I’d say they’re just enough for the watch of this price range. Yes, the battery life can be the issue, but then again, we can’t always get what we want, so you have to compromise with this drawback.
Overall, I’ll conclude this blog by saying one thing, if you want a simpler, yet innovative, attractive, and easy-to-use smartwatch, which you can really afford, this is it for you. But, if you are digging for the top-notch extra features, then you shouldn’t consider this.
